Term Description
De Facto Standard A standard that has become a standard because it is widely used rather than because it was officially approved by some standards organization or government.
De Facto Standardization Standardization carried out by a non-governmental parties other than FSOs.
De Jure Standard A standard that has been established by law.
Decision Legislative act of the European Union, which shall be binding in its entirety upon those to whom it is addressed.
Decision 768/2008/EC Decision on a common framework for the marketing of products.
Deliverable The intended output from a process, usually used as a generic term for a type of published document, e.g. European Standard, a Technical Specification, a CEN Workshop Agreement, etc.NOTE: Often used in the context of 'new deliverables.
DIN National Standardisation Body from Germany: Deutsches Institut für Normung e.V.
Directive A directive is a legislative act of the European Union, which requires member states to achieve a particular result without dictating the means of achieving that result.
Directive 98/34/EC Lays down a procedure for the provision of information in the field of technical standards and regulations.

Distributor Is the natural or legal person in the supply chain who takes subsequent commercial actions after the product has been placed on the Community market.
Dominant Agent Actors whose standard is expected to be a dominant design.
Dominant Design Design that has achieved and maintained the highest level of market acceptance for a significant amount of time.
Draft Standard Document containing the text of the technical specifications concerning a given subject, which is being considered for adoption in accordance with the national standards procedure, as that document stands after the preparatory work and as circulated for public comment or scrutiny.
Dresden Agreement Regulates the cooperation between CENELEC - European Committee for Electrotechnical Standardization and IEC - International Electrotechnical Commission.
