Term Description
CAB (EU) Conformity Assessment Body at the European Union. Is an organization which passes through the conformity assessment procedures of the EU.

CDV See Committee Draft for Vote.
CE Marking Symbolises the conformity of the product with the applicable Community requirements imposed on the manufacturer.

CIP The Competitiveness and Innovation Framework Programme (CIP) aims to encourage the competitiveness of European enterprises.
CIRCA Extranet tool tuned towards Public Administrations needs. It enables a given community geographically spread across Europe (and beyond) to maintain a private space on the Internet where they can share information, documents, participate in discussion fora and benefit from various other functionalities.
Cluster A group of interconnected companies and associated institutions (faculties, research centers, SMEs) in a particular field. The benefits of these networks include access to specialised human resources, suppliers and knowledge.

Code of practice Document that recommends practices or procedures for the design, manufacture, installation, maintenance or utilization of equipment, structures or products.

Committee Draft (CD) This is the first public form of a proposed international standard. A Working Draft must first be formally registered as a Committee Draft.
Committee Draft for Vote (CDV) Stage in the international standards development process where a technical committee votes on a draft of standard.
Committee Stage The committee stage is the principal stage at which comments from national bodies are taken into consideration, with a view to reaching consensus on the technical content.
Community Harmonisation Legislation Any Community legislation harmonising the conditions for the marketing of products.
Company Standard Standard developed within company or other organization for its own needs.
Company Standardization Is the result of the standardization by a company or other organization for its own needs.
Compatibility Suitability of products, processes or services for use together under specific conditions to fulfil relevant requirements without causing unacceptablee interactions.
Compatibility Standard Standards concerning fitting of interrrelated entities to one other, in order to enable them to function together.
Competitive Intelligence the action of defining, gathering, analyzing, and distributing intelligence about products, customers, competitors and any aspect of the environment needed to support executives and managers in making strategic decisions for an organization.
Competitiveness A competitive economy is an economy with a consistently high rate of productivity growth.
Complaint Expression of dissatisfaction made to an organization, related to its products, or the complaints-handling process itself, where a response or resolution is explicitly or implicitly expected.
Concurrent Standardization Standardization to solve matching problems as soon as they occur.
Conflicting national standard National standard, with the same scope as an EN (and HD for CENELEC) including requirements which conflict with the requirements of the EN (and HD for CENELEC).
Conformity Assessment Demonstration that specified requirements relating to a product, process, system, person or body are fulfilled.

Conformity Assessment Procedures (EU) Procedures defined by the European Comission for authorized organizations to become a CAB (Conformity Assessment Body).
Consensus General agreement, characterized by the absence of sustained opposition to substantial issues by any important part of the concerned interests and by the process that involves seeking to take into account the views of all parties concerned and to reconcile any conflicting arguments. Note: consensus need not to imply in unanimity.
Consortium Form of co-operation between some competitors to agree on standards.

Consortium Standard Standard issued by a consortium.
Consumer Individual member of the general public purchasing or using goods, property or services, for personal, family or household purposes.
Contract Agreement by which one or more parties are obligated towards one or several other parties to provide a service.
Contributor Person who creates, or assists in the creation of, an original element of a European Standard.
Conversion Transition from the existing situation to a situation in which a new standard is implemented.
COPRAS Cooperation Platform for Research and Standards
Copyright Copyright and related rights provide an incentive for the creation of and investment in new works and other protected matter (music, films, print media, software, performances, broadcasts, etc.) and their exploitation, thereby contributing to improved competitiveness, employment and innovation.
Correspondent Members Is usually an organization in a country which does not yet have a fully developed national standards activity.
Corrigendum Supplementary document to one, two or all three versions of a CEN/CENELEC publication, which corrects one or more errors or ambiguities inadvertently introduced in either drafting or printing and which could lead to incorrect or unsafe application of those versions.
Counsellor As a key stakeholder, a European institution that has a political role to play in European standardization, e.g. EC and EFTA.

Customer Dissatisfaction

Customer Expectation

Anticipation of the level of satisfaction likely to result from receiving a service, including the nature and manner of delivery.
Customer Need
(in the service sector)
Requirement, the meeting of which is fundamental to the provision of a service.
Customer Satisfaction Customer‘s perception of the degree to which the customer‘s requirements have been fulfilled.
